Dry Brush to Detoxify Your Body’s Largest Organ + so much more!

SKIN. it’s the largest organ in the human body, but did you know that it’s also an organ of elimination? One third of your body’s toxins get excreted through the skin and a buildup of toxins can also clog pores causing them to become trapped. Dry brushing can help with that and is one of the most affordable ways to release toxins along with several other benefits.

What is Dry Brushing?

A dry brush is a natural bristle brush that has a long handle to reach all parts of your body. Dry brushing is done before showering, so put side an extra 5-10 minutes in your daily routine to fully brush your entire body.

Before showering, undress and stand in the shower. Standing in the shower is ideal because you lose a lot of dead and fallen skin during the process. Start at your feet moving upward. Move the brush in gentle, long strokes, always brushing towards your heart. *See diagrams below for directions*. If you are serious about getting into dry brushing, I recommend printing out the diagrams and keeping them in your bathroom as a quick reference. Don’t forget to reach all areas, including the backs of your knees.

Once you’ve brushed, take a hot shower to open your pores further. This will simulate your sweat glands and draw out more toxins. The next recommended step is one that I have troubles doing – at the end of your shower, take a couple minutes to alternate the water temperature between hot and cold. Do this to stimulate further blood flow and increase circulation. I’m ALWAYS cold, so I have a really hard time doing this one (this is my new October goal!). When you hop out of the shower, dry off until your body is damp. Rub natural body oil or lotion to promote cell renewal and softness.

For best results, dry brush daily. After a month you’ll be seeing and feeling the results!

Benefits of Dry Brushing:

  • Stimulates lymphatic system & release toxins– The stiffer the brush, the more it will stimulate your lymphatic system to remove more toxins. The lymphatic system is the system responsible for eliminating cellular waste products that build up in tissue. When your lymphatic system isn’t functioning properly, it can make you sick, which is a major factor leading to inflammation and disease.

  • Improves digestion – Improve bloating by messaging your lymph modes. This helps shed excess water and toxins in your body.

  • Exfoliates – Removes dry skin, unclogs pores.

  • Reduces cellulite – Yes ladies, this has been proven! It softens fat deposits below the skin, which spreads the fat deposits more evenly to reduce the look of cellulite.

  • Smoothes skin

Where to Get Your Hands on a Dry Brush:

Any dry brush will work just fine as long as it has natural bristles (NOT synthetic), with a long handle:
